A Little Bit About Me

The Basics

Hi! I'm Danielle Blackwood. I'm a Registered Counselor and the author of the forthcoming book: The Twelve Faces of the Goddess: Transform Your Life through Astrology, Magick and the Sacred Feminine, published by Llewellyn Worldwide. I'm also the astrology columnist for Banyen Books and SageWoman magazine. I've studied astrology for over 30 years, and have certification in archetypal astrology through author and world renowned astrologer, Erin Sullivan.
My academic background is in Counselling Psychology and Women's Studies from the University of British Columbia, as well as certification in numerous wellness modalities. I'm a passionate scholar of the works of Carl Jung and archetypal psychology, and work best with women who are on a psycho-spiritual growth path. I have been facilitating Goddess Gatherings, workshops, and classes on astrology and feminine spirituality since 1994.

I am one of only 200 individuals in the world given permission to work with the stories from the iconic book, Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype, by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes. I also count myself beyond fortunate to have had the opportunity to study goddess archetypes with author and psychiatrist, Jean Shinoda Bolen (Goddesses in Everywoman). Please sign up for my newsletter to be the first to know when I'll next be offering workshops inspired by this life changing work.

A Little Bit More ...

True to my first house Sagittarius, I spent my younger years as a bon vivant/mystic-in-training, travelling the world and living abroad on a perpetual quest for knowledge. From priestess initiation into the Mysteries of Avalon in Glastonbury, England in 1999, to sitting at the foot of Buddhist temples in Japan, my thirst for the numinous brought me to the deepest darkest places you can imagine and the most sublime. Let me put it this way: there's not a lot that shocks me.

At the age of 36, as a single parent, I made the monumental decision to go back to school with zero financial support. It was worth every penny I could conjure, and I graduated with honors in 2008 against all odds.

I picked up my childhood obsession with art, as a means to heal a broken heart in 2003, and began painting watercolor images of the sacred feminine, which actually caught the eye of a major greeting card company. After my work proved to be a bit too "subversive" for them, I continued showing and selling my pieces at art shows, galleries and local shops. As much as I love making art, writing proved to be an even more compelling creative urge. I published my first piece in 2011, entitled, Dancing in the Temple of the Queen of Heavenand I've been been building my portfolio ever since.  Since then my writing has appeared regularly in SageWoman magazine, Circle, Ignite, Witches and Pagans and in the anthology, "A Mantle of Stars". Between clients, I am currently finishing my first full length book.

Ever since I was a little girl, I always envisioned that one day, I would live in a faery tale cottage in the woods. I would learn the lore of plants, seed and harvest by the cycles of the Moon, and gather medicinal herbs from my garden. On Spring Equinox this year (my birthday) my wish came true.

My husband and I combined all of our manifesting magic, and recently made the epic life transition to living in our dream home on Salt Spring Island.  I now do my consultations overlooking a view of sparkling ocean, old growth Douglas Fir, and baby deer with velvet covered antlers. I am still amazed that we actually live in this magical place.

And, just in case you're interested, I am a double Aries with Scorpio rising! ;)

I look forward to connecting with you!
